What is The Council of Danish Diaconia ?

The Council of Danish Diaconia is an umbrella organization that covers a circle of Danish diaconal organizations and institutions. Its aim is to:
  • Promote diaconia within Denmark
  • Work for co-operation between the diaconal organizations and institutions
  • Promote matters of common interest with the state and other public authorities.
The members of The Council of Danish Diaconia work on a Danish National Church basis. They work in different areas such as doing diaconal and social work among children, young people, adults and elderly people. This work is done through:
  • Drop-in centers, family centers, night hostels, and hostels for homeless people
  • Palliative care for dying people (in hospices), care of elderly citizens, residential homes for elderly people and shared housing for the mentally ill
  • Counseling, therapeutic help, educational work, and pastoral care
  • Networking, visiting service and second-hand shops
  • Youth-clubs and boarding schools for 14-17 year-olds
  • Educating deacons, nurses, and other staff for the health sector.
It is possible to get a diaconal education in different places in Denmark, all run by organizations that are members of The Council of Danish Diaconia.

Jens Maibom Pedersen, Principal of The Diaconal Folk High School, is the chairman of The Council of Danish Diaconia.
